Cobb), and you can a great scuffling celebrity (Evelyn Keyes) whose sister (Nina Foch) has worked during the gambling enterprise and you will old good corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). The brand new caustically epigrammatic program, new cast’s suavely regulated body language of like and you will threat, and you may Rossen’s thrillingly controlled and you may stylishly assertive images (along with their political conscience) make this pugnacious yet intricate spectacle an invisible vintage of your own genre.” [ 10 ]

It is generally a matter of watching Mr. Powell read their paces fashionably when you’re a huge shed off actors and actresses render your customary assistance. Evelyn Keyes takes on the nice nothing lady who brings forth the brand new best in him and Ellen Drew ‘s the smooth and you will slinky vixen exactly who will get your on the jams. Thomas Gomez try fatty since the villain and you will Lee J. Cobb does a different sort of in a position trip since an exhausted cops inspector who ultimately shuts the fact. A lot of drinking and you may puffing is completed of the all concerned.” [ a dozen ]
